Scope on a LE No. 5

Simon, yes, you are talking about Maurice K. and he certainly enjoys shooting his 4T / No 5. It's in 7.62 and was re-barrelled by Phil Rose a couple years ago.

Just a question from me to satisfy my learnings of such stuff, why is the rear tie plate missing from the lower stock was this the norm in a mofiied No.5.
I too would be mindful of copping a Weatherby eye brow, I had a chap mention to me heaps he knew how to shoot as we were playing around with my 444 Marlin topped with a Weaver wide view scope using some pretty stiff loads (Max) he kept badgering me about having a shot of it. I relented as he knew it all so I loaded a round into the mag and let him loose with a shot, despite my constant warnings about its nasty recoil he would not give himself the correct eye relief.
I reckon he left himself less than 1/2" (must have been looking down a tunnel) anyway bang it goes skin and claret all over the place and 4 stitches in his eyebrow, yes he knew it all alright.

Done that (it hurt). But the LE seems fine with plenty of space in between eye and scope. PL very kindly sent me the wherewithall to convert the trigger and I found a No. 4 Mk 2 fore-end that I converted. Put a new coat of linseed on the wood, Blancoed and Brassoed the sling and am now ready for Sat at the range. Might then try out a Kahles 4i with the Canadian mount.

Found a range that was open over Christmas! Only 50 metres but it´s usually better at 100/300 than at 50. It (I) can hold the nine/ten for about twenty rounds (before it gets a bit hot ... and my eyes begin to wander off), and then it goes out to eight. I removed the bracket several times and it made no diffrerence. The scope is not too far back (no black eye, blood or bent nose) and I can´t see the need for a cheek rest. `Tis a GREAT improvement on the `smithless´ type! Am glad I chose the Trijicon 3-9x24 with the Triangle Post Reticle. It´s a bit large, but the only one with a one inch tube that´ll fit the bracket (so the illumination´s only got a half-life of fifteen years ... when I´ll be well over ninety).
