That's a nice Model 1899 Krag carbine. Mine is about 5,000 after yours. I restored it over time with original parts.

You have the seldom seen sight cover, we don't get those much up here. Here's mine. I still need a replacement handguard and front sight.

Good luck on that around the Canadian shows. I saw an NRA model in great shape without papers a couple years ago but didn't buy it. It went for $450 CDN which would be about right...too bad though.

You did very well on getting the carbine. I have a rifle, but have not been able to find a correct carbine, just modified rifles.

Yes, apparently one has to be very careful when looking for a carbine in regards to making sure it is correct.
