Possible Krag Purchase

I don't think so. The bolt would almost fetch that if sound. Some of the parts might add up to that. The gun as a whole wouldn't be worth trying to resurrect for that though. I doubt the barrel was anything at all inside.

I guess it all depends on how badly someone needed parts and what it was worth to them. If ,say, someone was given a family heirloom that needed some parts, then they have a cheap Krag that is hopefully now complete and functional. Or if someone has a missing or broken bolt, then they might have figured it was worth it to get the gun functional again. Plus there would be other parts on it. Depending on where you are, these things aren't on every street corner.
If on the other hand the buyer is planning a restoration on it, then I think it was not such a wise purchase.

Looks like someone paid about three times what it is worth. Looks like a loooong project.

I just took a look on gun broker and, going by parts prices on there, there is about $450.00 worth of parts on this gun and that excludes the wood. Of course it's hard to say what the parts listed might actually sell for.

And, unless the buyer chimes in here, I'll guess we'll never know if it was bought to restore, to part out, or to complete an existing rifle.

I generally do not care for Krags being broken down and sold for parts (and notice some individuals do this on a regular basis on 'Ebad' and 'Gunbraker'). However, this Krag is a good candidate for 'Organ Donor'.
