I have a Mauser 98k that smells like a horse! I wonder if it was used by a horse mounted calvary unit? Also I remember when I was a kid, which was prior to the gun control act of 1968, I mail ordered a P14 Enfield (29.95) --- when I unpacked it had that great smell of cosmoline
that is burned into my memory. The absolute worst smelling thing ever was an L1A1 buttstock that I picked up. I'm not sure if it was some chemical it was preserved in or a caustic cleaning material that caused the funk. Salt Flat
