1903 Springfield Mark 1 Bolt ID

Gentlemen, can anyone tell me what the correct bolt would be for a Mark 1, serial # 1105030 ? I checked the Vi shooter page, and there is a gap where this Serial # would be. Thanks to all.

John, The page shows bolt J5 serial #'s 832992-1091043, then L2 bolt for #'s 1137913-1186191....so where do #'s 1091044- 1137930 fit ? That is the gap I see, I must be reading the chart incorrectly.

The serial numbers and barrel dates on the chart are merely representative examples of original rifles I found (or had reported) which contained those bolts. I put those in to demonstrate to the reader that, in most cases, I didn't invent the data from thin air. The solid horizontal BARS on the chart are intended to represent the estimated periods of usage. And they show no gap.

Your rifle, S/N 1105030, falls near the intersection of three bars and could correctly have a J 5, w/L 2, or w/L 5 bolt. Please bear in mind that transition regions exist where one steel lot code is phased out and another is phased in. In reality, the bars don't start and end abruptly, but fade in and out, usually over several thousand rifles.

Also please bear in mind that the bolt steel lot code charts are a perpetual "work in progress." As I continue to gather more data, I will be refining the charts. But, don't expect any major upheavals. The data are pretty solid and are backed up by redundant studies.

I am not a restorer or a collector. However, before the CMP ran out, I had purchased a Mk 1 03 just because I wanted that variant. It came with a very nice deep blue Greek blueing job but had an absolutely Fuggly, green parked A3 bolt. In an attempt to keep from gagging everytime I took it out of the safe I jumped on an internet deal and purchased a dozen 03 bolts from a part supplier figuring that out of that many I'd find one blued bolt that would safely headspace in my rifle. I got lucky and did in fact find a nice 03A3 bolt that headspaces well and matches the color of the Mk1. Considering that there were no other Mk1 parts on the rifle I don't feel bad that the bolt is an A3 varient. It looks nice.
In that batch of bolts I received a 1st variation 03 bolt with no markings other then a faint 2 on the underside of the straight bolt handle. It has been green parked (that has taken on a nice hue) and is matched up with a BP bolt sleeve. I'm gonna presume that someone somewhere is in need of this type bolt for a restoration. It makes no sense to have it sitting in my drawer so if someone needs it give a shout.
If it turns out this is not a desirable bolt or if they are common would someone please let me know? I plan on getting rid of the ones excess to my needs (anyone want a lot of 12 bolts? LOL) so it will go with the others if its just another bolt. Thanks for taking the time to read this long post.

Im also looking for a 03MK1 bolt,,and a bolt for a sa reciever #253xxx. I picked up this reciever recently,,its as new and stripped,but it does have a bolt stop,,I need a couple of those also..LOL
