Index what!
Oh hears a story for you ~ I was assisting a young aspiring 303 shooter and new member to the club so to assist him I said I would single load the rounds for him.
He was having issues with single loading as I had stated to him the rounds really need to be stripped from the mag as you can break the extractor claw slamming it over a rim.
Things were going pretty well as I coached and placed the singles in the mag and he closed the bolt and continued with his application going well thought I?
Boy was I in for a painful and bloody reality check on the 6th round.
Having got the 5th away he opened the bolt and I placed the live round on the follower and with my index finger Rt Hand proceeded to push the 6th into the mag.
He anticipating my ready and close the bolt command slammed the bl**dy bolt shut on my trigger finger ************** hell..........
Extricating my now munted finger from the action I was too shocked to really say something because it was not his fault he was a new shooter and excited to be having a go.
I learned allot that day also the fact you do not know just how reliant you are on your trigger finger being in good condition as I winced every time I shot later on that day.
Bit like the one legged chicken dodging the axe...........

I did the same once while handling a .50 cal MG. The number 2 on the gun was another Sgt, as was I, and I closed the cover on his fingers. That was his job, brush down the extractor and close the cover...I pinched his left hand ring finger right through at the nail and there was a hole clean through. He never said a word to me about it. The troops asked later what happened and he didn't tell. He never did... That's what bothered me most. Not the stupidity of the action, but his lack of chastisement for me...
