Ed Order
Bruce Canfield uses the Winchester document trove he acquired to ascertain that the Ed Order serials reached about 102000. He even pictures 100931 as an EO rifle. It's a pretty convincing exposition debunking the old idea that the EO went from 100001 to 100500. The EO was for 500 RIFLES not 500 serial numbers.

EO
You're right, I made a mistake -- he said 103000:
"Therefore, there was no definite delineation of serial numbers between the later Educational Order rifles and the early First Contract Rifles. The last of the EO rifles were completed on March 12, 1941 and the final serial number stamped on that date was 103,086. Therefore, not factoring in the lag time between stamping the serial number and completion of the final heat treatment and Parkerizing of a receiver, it can be fairly stated that the approximate serial number range for Educational Order rifles would be 100,001 – 103,000"

I don't know what book you're reading from Bob, mine says 100,501 was the end of the educational and the second order says 100,501 to 165,500. Quoted from Bruce Canfield's all new and up to date...so forth and so on.
And all I did was ask someone ELSE a question...
