Winchester 303 British Ammo Available
Just finished buying some ammo at Bass Pro Shop and saw fresh stock of Winchester 303 British
Super X 180 grains.
At $34.99 for a box of 20 it isn't a bargain, but having Winchester back in production is a good sign.

This should make it a lot easier for Canadians to get 303 now, especially with all the Enfields in the hands of our US neighbors north of the border. Suggest my friends in the Republic of Alberta start with requests to their local gun shops. The Canadian
Rangers might be happy with this too if they haven't phased out the 303 completely.

Winchester and Remington used to produce Mk.7z ball for target shooting. I still have a can of 1981 dated WRA cartridges as produced on a military contract. Remington puts it out under the Remington/UMC name but there's no supply that i know of. Hopefully, they will produce some again in the future. They're missing the boat.

Looks like Winchester started with something useful. Here are the specs from their website: http://www.winchester.com/Products/r...es/X303B1.aspx
Cartridge: 303 British
Bullet Weight: 180 Grs.
Muzzle Velocity: 2460
Muzzle Energy: 2418 ft. lbs.
Ballistic Co-efficient: 0.369
Case Type: Brass
Rounds Per Box: 20
Rounds Per Case: 200
Description:
◦ Proven Accuracy
◦ High Velocity
◦ Maximum Impact
◦ Rapid Controlled Expansion
◦ Super-X Power-Point ammunition offers a unique exposed soft nose jacketed bullet design that delivers maximum energy on target.
◦ Strategically placed notches around the jacket mouth improve upset performance and ensure uniform expansion for massive energy release.
◦ This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.
Brownells, CTD and Midway are carrying it:
Winchester Super-X Ammo 303 British 180 Grain Power-Point Box of 20
Now that we have "supply," we've got to create "demand" to keep it in production. This might be a limited test run and doesn't guarantee future supply.
For Winchester's corporate boys to decide to produce new ammo, they are essentially testing the market (risk versus price versus demand) to see if there are buyers out there. If all of the 303 collectors bought just one 20-round box, we'd help keep Winchester in the market, and maybe attract another company like Remington or Federal to enter and drive the price down.
I know a lot of us have a pile of Greek surplus we've been parsing out like water rationed in the desert to try to make it last into forever, but there will be no more of the HXP from '69 & '75 that when it runs out. And others have been reloading until the cases are stretched like an old elastic waistband. We are the only ones who can keep the production line rolling. No manufacturer or ammo dealer wants dead inventory that doesn't move.
So start shooting those old Enfields stored in your closets again lads!
With the new Criterion barrel being introduced, this might just make a great combination of an accurate barrel and new quality ammo. And having ammo available might just increase the value of our old beauties too.

.303 Winchester SuperX 180g has been available for years & years, have fired hundreds of rounds of it but have not brought a box of it for at least 10ys, it now retails for around $46 a box of 20 in NZ

I buy Remington-UMC 174gr MJ at the local Bass Pro-Shop. Wasn't too bad, price wise, and provides my brass for the future. There was a bunch on the shelf at Christmas time.

The last .303 I purchased were Privi, good brass and decent accuracy IMHO. Price around a buck (Canadian
) a round. Plus tax of course.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?
