I'm pretty sure that's going to be chambered for 8mm...looks like the Egyptian markings again so it'll be a Hakim. Yes, they made the AG42b in 6.5x55 as well, and I think these were also made in 7.62X39 as a later project...a conversion...by Egypt. The Rashid, but they're different. Apparently they also made a few in 7.62 x 51 but only a dozen or so.

If your going to shoot it, it is recommended to wrap some tape or something like that around the metal case deflector on there. That things beats the hell out of the brass and unless you put something on it to soften it, it will cause massive dents in the brass. The Swedes when they upgraded there's to the AG-42 B standard put a rubber stopper over there's (but by this point in time the rifle had already been sold to Egypt so they never received the upgrades)

I have read that the Turkish
8mm ammo is dangerous in it. Does anyone have suggestions or experience with these rifles and what works the best in them?

They have an adjustable gas tube so they can use just about anything although the Turk stuff may be too hot. The casings should eject about 8-10 ft from the rifle, adjust till they land about that far.
The writing you describe sounds a lot like the import marking. Looks like yours is on the barrel.

A very well made gas adjustment tool is avaliable from a poster on gunbroker. It is a good idea to clean and adjust the gas valve per the instructions before trying diffrent ammo types..

Yes, you are correct. The third photo down is an import stamp on the barrel.
