Off topic but Peter sparked a memory from the 70s. There was a Japanese motorcycle company named Hodaka, that made two-stroke dirt bikes, three of which were the Wombat, the Combat Wombat and the Super Combat Wombat. Anyway, a little word association made me remember. Tom

..........and there was nothing more unnerving than the gunner plinking away with the M8 and suddenly hitting the big *** without letting the team know.
Bad if you have bino's glued to your eyes watching the spotter rounds.........usually recessed eyeballs.
Some of my more fun days were anti tank.

In the Dusty Creek promo a WWII TD rolls up right at the end and starts cranking out a few rounds its hilarious as the muzzle brake does its job well scattering everything each side people, hats, ground sheets goodness knows how much each round would cost I watch it from time to time and really reckon that in Aus at least we will never see or be part of anything that you guys have in the states as far as fun goes. About the only thing I have not seen is a recoiless rifle guess the back blast would be to dangerous for bystanders. Just brought the 14th edition Cartridges of the World I have a long way to go getting my collection of British Nitro's finished will post some cartridges I have on my next break.

British nitros and black powder
These are difficult to find, even at Gun Shows now. I was able to get some nice examples years ago. Photo shows a 303 cartridge at the left.
The H&H cartridges can still be foundAttachment 62376

I have been amassing bits and bobs for as long as I can remember like other collectors I think you have to work hard and troll like crazy to find stuff I have lost count of the flea markets and 2nd hand dealers I have gone to over the years for well over 4+ decades anyway we have finds and that is the reward. Probably my best find ever and I stumbled across them was an unopened packet of 10 BSA .33 in the yellow packet and it is not a case of what they are worth it is being able to share with people who have a similar passion and believe me one of my friends has mountains of cartridges/packets in his collection and I enjoy visiting his place to while away a few hours.

I recall working on a wombat doing something to a mis-feeding M8C or something equally mundane. Chattering away to the crew who'd lifted their ear defenders to speak/listen to the ear-defenderless Armourer. All was fixed and as I walked away, I tapped the gun commander on the shoulder and walked away at the correct safety angle as the gun let a few spotters go at the target hulk. As I'd got to about 15 yards or so from the gun, just outside the danger area of course, my world ended - or fell apart as the BAT fired the main armament and let a 120mm HESH go. Outside the danger area of course but no ear defenders made me deaf for weeks. Absolutely no sympathy of course, beyond the usual 'well you should have had your ear boxes on clap trap........' Went to the MO later in the week. Used to play squash with him and expected a bit of TLC and a few days rest. But nope! But Geuss what..... Never did it again!
The Charlie G was another with a ferocious crack........
