What is this box thing?
So at the pawn shop where I work we got in this box, im pretty sure its military. All i know is that its galvanized steel and smells old when you open it. There is also a white powder on the inside. The top has a rotating latch and a pretty heft rubber seal. So does anyone know anything about this?

I think you'll find it's a reusable container. The white powder is just an oxidization. They came with various things in them, the frame inside would be the special part. We had to return them...

We used to have something very similar but brown coloured that the artillery bag charges used to come in and also detonator fuzes as used by the pioneer platoon. They were stackable and flashproof too. The handle bit used to wind in and push the prongs out into the corners to lock it and that would draw the lid down to make the tight seal. Like BAR says, they had to be returned but were useless for anything else!

Thanks guys. Peter, that sounds exactly like the same locking mechanism that mine has on it. Do you think its worth anything?

It IS the same mech. They also made a short stumpy box that was...15" square and 24" tall that we had around... You'd have to put it on Ebay and see. Someone might need it.

That is a 40mm Bofors ammo can. Ammo came four to a clip, four clips to the can. I have loaded many cans like on light cruisers during WWII.

Yes! That even makes sense. We still had QF Bofors around several years ago for air defence in Germany
and the school in Gagetown NB.

Correct me if I am wrong but don't we still use the 40 Bofors on the MCDVs?
