He did three landings, Sicily, Italy
and Normandy. Started in the first guys in '39 and finished with de-mob in '45. Barely looked like the same guy. He was 17 when he joined... He died in '93, couldn't even hold on for the 50th of D-Day. Seems like a long time he's been gone now. He told me stories of how to handle the .30 cal and .50 cal when I was VERY young but I remembered them and used them when I was a MG number on them in later years. Sure had some surprised NCOs that couldn't imagine where I'd have picked that stuff up. Skills that had been lost in the 35 years since the vets came back I guess...
