A close friend's brother was a rail spliter he did not make it home- said it was a burden on his parents for the remainder of therir lives.

Burr died January 15, 2002.

My paternal grandmother's younger brother was in H Co, 334th Bn, 84th ID. He was KIA in Lindern, Germany, on 12/4/44, while on patrol. He was the jeep driver for his Lt.

The Missouri Military Academy has a student club called The Railsplitters Living History Company that re-enacts the 84th Division in WWII. In 2010 the GCA Grant Committee awarded them funding to purchase more M1 Rifles so that more students could carry them in the effort. We wrote them up in the Fall 2010 Journal.

Which when you think about it isn't too far off of the actual age of the soldiers who fought in WWII.

The GCA Grant Committee awards money for projects that further the mission of the Association, part of which is "To preserve and publicize the history of the M1 Rifle and its inventor John Garand." We saw the MMA grant request as doing just that for a lot of teenage boys, so made the award. If you have something that might qualify, go to the web site and download an application.
