Is this normal?
Refinishing a CMP
stock for a guy and came across this nub on the op-rod.
Is this normal or should I dress it? It appears to be an intentional peen perhaps to tighten things up? Haven't seen enough op-rods to know if this is something that was done.

I've never seen one like that. Looks like it's been hitting the bolt lug improperly when unlocking.

No weird marks on the lug so that's a good thing. I'll just leave it, I told the guy about it he said it shoots fine so....

It will shoot like it should. That's just a deformity, if the headspace is good and the bolt lug is undamaged, I'd still be tempted to skin that off. It could be done without much notice of it being done, guess it doesn't matter though.

This damage is commonly seen on op rods have dismounted while being fired

I'm assuming if that's the case it happened sometime in the distant past perhaps on a different receiver. There's no scratches on the receiver where the nub wore itself in. Nothing on the lug, so it doesn't seem to be causing any problems at this point.

Just so I understand how this happens. The op-rod dismounts on recoil striking the rear of the disassembly notch, correct?
