M1917 Remington Reciever 671xxx with Eddystone parts

My first M1917 and the receiver number falls outside of Remington production? JA/bomb barrel. USMC bolt. Mostly Eddystone including stock with a couple small parts marked Remington.

Is this a Remington or Eddystone?

Not really a common question, but enough of these Remington M1917 receivers have been observed well above the 650,000 (Gov't contract ended at 646,00) range to infer that the reported high serial number is in error. It is assuredly a Remington, though rebuilt or built on a spare parts receiver.

Or could Remington have sent excess receivers down to the Eddystone arsenal after Remington proper fulfilled their contract? "Eddystone Arsenal", a.k.a
"Remington Arms of Delaware" was after all a subsidiary of Remington Arms. I don't know, just a thought.

Not that anyone ever reported. Also note its a JA barrel now.

As noted higher numbered Remington receivers that mfg reported have showed up, my brother has one. Looks like production that they went ahead and finished, maybe got paid for, records are lost.

I do have a rather high numbered Rem, 671,xxx with all the bombs and eagle heads. Original blue finished receiver and barrel dated 11/18. Somewhere there is a gentleman that keeps a loose data base on these. I have conversed with him and as far as he knows, mine is the highest he's seen to date with the acceptance stamps. There may be others but he nor I have seen one. There are a numbers of them that are higher serialed, and lowered for that matter that don't have the acceptance stamps.

I have read where Remington didn't always produce these in sequential serial numbers as it wasn't important apparently. Kind of like hot dogs, mystery meat.

I have a Remington receiver in the 666xxx range. It has a nice finish that looks more lke a commercial blue. Notable is that there is no flaming bomb on the right side. Does yours have the flaming bomb? I think these may have been sold as spares after the government contract ended. Salt Flat

I have a Remington 6729XX, barrel date 4-18. Has the OGEK cartouche. I will have to check on the flaming bomb, don't recall seeing any. It seems Winchester did the better job with record keeping compared to Remington.

Some where in Ferris' book on the 1917, doesn't he say that in WWII some 50000 rifles were made up from parts? I always assumed that it meant they had 50000 unused receivers in storage.
