    Walter Madjarac of Blue Lake passed away peacefully at home on July 30th, 2005, with the comfort of his family surrounding him.Walter was born May 15, 1929, in Cleveland, OH, where he then went to work on the Lakes as a fireman, before enlisting into the military. He served during the Korean War with the Army’s 21st Regiment - 24th Division.Among Walter’s service awards were: the Army Occupation Medal with a Japanicon clasp; Distinguished Unit Emblem; One Outstanding Service Silver Bar; Korean Service Medal with five bronze stars; Combat Infantry Badge; Parachute Wings from the Company B 511th Airborne Infantry Regiment; and the Army of Occupation Medal “Germanyicon”.After Walter’s military discharge, he held several jobs, primarily as a painting contractor in Southern California, for many years.In 1971, after moving his family to Blue Lake, Walter opened “Walt’s Friendly Tavern” and shortly thereafter purchased the old Blue Lake Hotel, which he ran with his wife, Norma, for several years.Walter is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma of Blue Lake; his brother, Sid of Blue Lake; son, John of Blue Lake; daughter, Karen of CT; grandchildren, Ramanda and Matthew of CT; great grandchildren, Nathan and Deanna of CT; sister-in-law, Marlene of Southern CA; nephew, Scott of Southern CA; great niece and nephew, Lacey and Shane; and long time family friend, Jean Mills.Walter enjoyed scuba diving, golf, fishing, both ocean and fresh water, and hunting. He loved spending time with family and friends and will be missed and loved by many.Walter was preceded in death by his mother, Sophia; father, John; step-mother, Mary; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; brother, Bob; and niece, Angelique.The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice and Dr. Schunk for making him as comfortable as possible in his last days with us.At Walter’s request, there will be no services held.
