An early leather sling with brass fittings and welter edges would be correct for this rifle. An early two piece brass muzzle cover would also be correct

Opened it up last night and as suspected, the bolt is non-matching. Stock, receiver and small parts match. Bolt and upper handguard do not.

I can't tell, did they bother to peen the screws on these?

No. Screws were staked at the start of type 99 long rifle production

I had an adventure getting a sling. I don't have an issue with repro slings so that is the direction I went. IMA had one on ebay that looked good and was priced right, only trouble was it had black fittings. But I had one with brass fittings on my 38 so I swapped that out.
Sling arrived quickly, open it up and it's a freaking VZ24 sling with Japanese marks stamped on it. I had seen these on ebay too and wondered about them as I doubt very much that Japan ever used them and they most certainly wouldn't be making them and marking them. I sent an e-mail out Sunday evening and had a reply Monday afternoon and the new sling was shipped Tuesday. They shipped the correct one this time along with a pre-printed, pre-postage stamped envelope. I was very pleased with how they handled this. No real questions, (other than wanting to know who packed it) and no hesitation to make it right.

Very nice rifle, I have always wanted one (as I have always wanted so many rifles), but they aren't common or cheap up here. Good to know about IMA, I might end up doing some business there in the future.
