Bayonets on while still on board ship...not likely. But looks pretty good. The near man is wearing one of those equipment vests we see so seldom.

Foreground guy is holding the rifle by the foreend the way you would during bayo maneuvers or drills.

Perhaps practice for D-DAY OR D+1 with all the troops landing I am sure not all of them followed the rule book

That's not from the rule book. That's just too dangerous for anyone to do. No one would even suggest fixing bayonets before scramble nets or landing craft. Sorry...

Nelson's Bay, NSW, 1942-12. Australian troops disembark over the sides of a Landing Craft Personnel (LCP) during an exercise at the Joint Overseas Operational Training School (JOOTS). Most are carrying .303 rifles with fixed bayonets. Note the wire mesh laid across the sandy beach to provide traction for vehicles.

They may have their 07's on the rifles which you may say is a bit dangerous but no more dangerous that that stupid British demand on the 25th April 1915 that the men's magazines were not to be charged and the chambers empty in case of an AD that would alert the Turks. Did not matter the Turk MG's got onto the boats and many AIF died well off shore. Posed the Garand pic may be but I would want any confidence booster I could get if they were witnessing what their comrades in arms were going through or what faced them also as stated we do not know if they are still in a friendly harbour.........

I know you would come up with that Mark. That's AFTER they're IN the landing craft. I'm guessing you've never done any of this...right? Those guys still have to get into the landing craft. Usually by scramble net. Now, enough...or would you rather I just tell you you're right...

Any way for what it's worth, my opinion a posted shot, and not in combat maybe training as the first guy has what looks like a pen in his pocket. Ray
