I had a look, recently, on-line for the Grand Old Lady book and the asking price in the U.K. seems to start around the £500 mark.

Yes. That’s about the lowest I’ve seen.
Have you tried libraries near you? There are only two copies in libraries here and they do not sign them out. You have to read it there. The closest one to me is in Washington, DC. That’s a three hour plane ride from here. Then there’s a car rental and a hotel. So the cost is about the same as buying a copy. I guess I could buy it and sell it after I’ve read it.

Well, It might do the job? But the legs are significantly of a smaller diameter tubing.
And the main body was a heavy machined casting. So when you go to fire you gun.
I would suggest a sandbag on each leg, over the feet!....

That would be nice Mr.E. Let us all know how you get on.
At least your gun now has something enable it to fire from. & also a decent height to display your gun as well. Bonus!

The book which I mentioned earlier in this thread also has a photograph of an anti aircraft Vickers tripod using similar construction methods/materials to what MR E has produced i.e. welded steel tube construction. It looks, from the picture, to be a very flimsy design. Obviously being for anti-aircraft use it is significantly taller.
