As stated, Type 24 Chinese Mauser, the swastika has nothing to do with Nazi Germany.

I'm surprised how many people mistake this swastika for any relation to Nazi Germany at this late date...

mmppres did describe the Swastika as German at the start of this thread but looking at the pictures again after my last post I knew that it wasn't a Nazi era Swastika because the "tails" of the cross are pointing the opposite way to what they do on the Nazi era Swastika. It was the Nazis who perverted the meaning of the Swastika and made it symbolize something totally different to it's original meaning.

I still know many people who call Waffenamts 'Dirty Birds'. I also know many people who call every Lee Enfield a '303', no matter the variant.

I've seen the 'swastika' on U.S. Poker Chips (from the 1920s), pre-WW1 Norwegian-Krag barrels (Steel Supplier), and early Rudyard Kipling books (Good Luck symbol in India, I believe). It was also used by some Western Native American Tribes, Chinese and others.

(Ancient symbol polluted by Nazi Party and lack of knowledge in this day & age).

If I can find my Grandfather's Boy Scout's handbook/manual which dates to around the time of just before WW1 it has a picture of a Swastika Boy Scouts medal which was awarded to anyone who did something outstanding for others in the Scouting movement. Presumably it was discontinued when the Nazis came to power. From memory I think that the tails of the cross point in the opposite direction to the Nazi era Swastika.

While 'Surfing' the internet today, I began running into 'swastikas' that were used by U.S. WW1 volunteer flyers, the U.S. 45th Division - largely native American (pre1930) and the (1922) Fernie, B.C., Girl's Hockey Team. This was before the honorable symbol was 'defiled' by Hitler and the Nazis.
