If the OP has intentions of trying to track down the rifle the number of which is shown on the scope bracket - it's a 1943 BSA Shirley rifle he needs to look for. If the OP's scope is 'original' to that bracket then we must also accept that the rifle had already been rescoped as Mk3's didn't exist in 1943!
Mind you, as seaforth72 indicates, I would seriously endorse trying to find a genuine 4T on to which to fit the scope & mount (if at all possible for the OP). Even a (real) mismatch is quite valuable these days....
