The slot to the top of the buffer housing, is DEFINATELY a requirement for the UK Deactivation spec. As Peter has stated, if you understand the full inner working of the Bren. Then you would also realise that this cut has no effect on functioning at all!
It is just that 'Something' had to be done to all major parts/ assemblies to satisfy the proofmaster at the time. That parts had been weakened/deactivated!.......
At one time. he wanted 50% of the buttslide rails removed. The same as Pistol frames!.........Same effect really.....NOTHING!......

It's not as though the butt slide is a pressure bearing part either........ The irony is that you can buy an un-cut bare butt slide at the large shows. Expensive I know, but not subject to any controls
