Old 8 MM Ammunition
I've been lurking for a while and need some information on some 8 MM ammunition I was given when I purchased a Mauser Rifle. It has marking that look like nny and a date code of 1979. Around the primer it has Red sealing agent. The bullets have a little corrosion on them but not on the brass itself. When you shake them you can hear the powder inside. I checked with a magnet and the magnet does not stick.
Are these safe to shoot?

If properly stored and loaded into a sound firearm chambered for the 7.92mm Mauser cartridge, they should be safe to a responsible marksman who points the muzzle in the right direction. They aren't so benign for whatever's on the other end.

You can still pick up some of this type ammo. Treat as corrosive primed ammo.

Thank you for the information. I shoot at a club and the gun is always pointed in the correct direction.
I will shoot them and definitely clean the rifle real well. Again thanks for the information.

Red/Orange sealant is Yugo
M49 8mm 196gr lead core boattail fmj. Purple sealant is Yugo M75 8mm Sniper ammo

No, the primer seal color on Yugo
ammo is totally irrelevant; it signifies nothing. You will find lots of purple-sealed Prvi ammo, of many different years and calibers, that is most definitely not M75

A friend of mine took ammo off a sniper over there and it was all AP. New manufacture. This stuff sounds like standard fodder, probably fine to shoot as it'll go bang and out of the barrel safely.
