I believe the Garandicon was removed from active duty at Naval Facilities (small shore stations) in 1976. I did research a couple years ago and even had the Op Ord reference. I can't remember for sure if that Op Ord was Navy wide or just for Nav Facs but beileve it was Navy wide. A disastrous Vista upgrade ate that reference, the hard copy is filed (hopefully) amongst a thousand other papers in stacks in the basement, and my brain is reverting to primal ooze so I can't be sure. I know they were in use in '64 and M14s in use in the 80's.
