Springfield 1903
Hi to all
I just bought a 1903 Springfield. I don't have it in my possession yet, but it has a barrel marking I never heard of before. USMC stamped on the barrel.
Is this an OK deal? Is there something else I should look for when I get it?
Thanks in advance.

Very little to go by with this data. We will need photos and much more. Serial number very important and price. Try to provide a little more.

Normally it should be a 1943 or 1944 Sedgley Mfg. Co. replacement barrel. Are there any other markings like a date stamp or a letter P in a circle just below the U.S.
M.C. marking?

There should be a "circled" S just below the USMC. These were replacement barrels built by Sedgely during WWII. This made in 1941 or 1942 are especially prized as there is a good chance the rifle they are installed was used by the Marines. Those made in 1943 or 1944 were usually in the ordnance "pipeline" and may or may not have been used by the Marines.
There are too many unknowns to give you much feedback. We need detailed information and better yet, pictures. There are a number of specific features seen on USMC M1903s.

Thanks for the remarks.
When I receive the rifle, probably this coming week, I will get better info and pix.

Well, the 03 arrived today and I have a couple of new details.
The barrel is marked U,S.M.C. 7-41 date, an S in a circle and as is shown in the 03-A3 book it has a hole in the receiver just above the stock. The serial number is 1420893.
I will try and get some clear pix this week end.

A hole in the receiver on the right, left, or both sides?

On the bolt handle side. To me the right side. According to the picture in the book, it's the left side.
