Tips from the peeps here - Ross rifle bolt

Had to put a Ross rifle bolt back in today after removing it. Best I can tell you need to hold down the trigger, hold the bolt head turned and push it in at the same time. Am I missing anything??? Asking here as its .303 related and I know there be Canucks around these here parts.

It's kind of like loading a set mousetrap into your pocket without setting it off. Sort of what you described. The bolt head should stay set if you don't bump it until you set the lug against the rail. It just takes practice.

The 1905 and 1910 are a little different.

Which one do you have?

1905 i think. whatever its the one that would ve got me killed if I'd needed to get it done before the Jerry reache dme with his bayonet

Solid bolthead or threaded?

No need to hold the trigger on the 1910 action, or the 1905. On the 1905 you do need to push down the bolt retaining catch as you insert the bolt. On the 1910 the bolt head retaining catch can be put into the upward, closed position after you insert the bolt. Some bolts will sit in the extended position, some need to be held in that position as they are inserted. A few moments practice and it should be easy.
