Actually there are 3 basic safeties or Lock Bolts typically found on Long Branch No.4 rifles. The type encountered will depend on the year of manufacture.
Early LB No4’s will have this type:



The type shown at the top of the page would be considered a mid war variation.

The “Boot” style as seen below is a late war variation which was used through 1950 production.
