A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... If there is a "surfeit" of FAL mags around at the "right price", an enterprising chap could machine up a batch of L1A1 style front lug plates, gently hammer the dodgy FAL "front lip" flush, linish the result smooth and flat, and then (silver) solder on the "new" lug.

The funny thing is that back in the "good old days" here, FAL owners used to get the the front lugs of L1A1 mags machined down to fit their metric rifles.

Been there too Bruce! Good idea too. Had to unbraze L1A1 lugs to get mags to fit FN's and then braze L1 lugs onto FN sub calibre mags to fit our L1's. There was an EMER about it as a batch of FN sub cal mags came through. Most recent time, had to un-braze the little lug while machining a Bren body well forwards to make a look-a-like L4. The distance I'd machined as per the drawing didn't equate to the distance as applied to about 20 assorted magazines!

You'd have thought that he'd come back and tell us how he got on wouldn't you? Are you still out there Newcastle?

As I recall, the late Pat Jones had a bunch of NOS Lithgowicon-made front lug plates available.

MDW supplies currently have some used SLR mags for sale on their website priced @£25 each. Another place worth trying is Chelmsford Militaria who although they don't actually currently list any on their website may still be able to supply some so worth asking if they have any available.

Newcastle, have you managed to get hold of any SLR mags now and if so how did you manage the shipping arrangements into the U.S.?
