Enfield Jungle Carbine Bayonet Lock Help

Hi all

After I picked up an Enfield spike bayonet at a gun show, my dad and I decided to pick up a bayonet to match one of our favorite shooters, the Enfield no 5 carbine.

I read a post on this forum that advised staying away from the replica ones and we agreed it would be a good idea to 'invest' in a real bayonet to match a great rifle

I was skeptical to diving into the world of bayonet trading/buying especially online but we went for it, we were outbid on a Poole 1946 but my dad put a bid on a Wilkinson, and we were both happy to hear he won it for less than we had expected

I just saw it on the rifle today and it looks great! Definitely looks excellent on the rifle

However, the part to lock it on is missing, the hole in the pommel

Is there any way I can acquire this part?

It does not need to be original if it is not possible - I am assuming it is unlikely without another entire bayonet. But I am really hoping there is a good option. I will try pick up a scabbard and frog so if there is a way I can get both those and the lock bolt that would be ideal!

Also, the very tip of the bayonet is slightly bent. Would it be best to leave as-is or try straighten it out and sharpen it up

Further, the markings look a bit shady to me, as the S in W S C looks sortof like a 5. Is that normal or should they be perfect?

The reverse markings look good.

I'll make a deal with you...... If you strip the grips off and get it beadblasted, phosphated and painted back to how it should be, I'll send you an original new catch, nut and spring for free. Can't say better than that can I?

As for the bent tip, we had them like that every day of the week, week in, week out! Just tap it straight and make good with a smooth file. They're quite tough steel but a new file will make good.

Want to know in the USA who can bead blast, phosphate and paint to the correct UK Military spec? Just ask.

I'll make a deal with you. You strip the grips off, leave the screws and nuts in the holes then get the bayonet bead blasted, phosphated and painted to the UK Military spec and I'll send you a new catch, nut and spring.

We dealt with tips like that day in and week in year after year. It's an easy fix to tap straight and make good with a smooth file. It is tough steel but a new file will do it.

Want to know who in the USA can rebuild to UK Militay spec? Please ask.

Better tell him whether you want the blade left satin/silver/bead blast finish from 1" below the cross-piece or left dark grey phosphate. Dark grey phosphate is the UK Military norm.

And show us all a picture afterwards

I remember watching the fitment of the new crosspiece, I'd still have polished the blade to the brite afterward...looks too much like an SMG bayonet now...but lovely of course.
