Question regarding original WWI 1911 walnut grips
Were original WWII checkered double diamond 1911 walnut grips sealed and oiled or were they just stained?

I think I've already found the answer:
QUOTEwood grips for the Colt Commercial and all military grips by any maker were made of American walnut and given an oil finish.
The oil darkened the wood, and left no surface finish.
I "think" the grips were treated much like rifle stocks....just dipped in hot oil. UNQUOTE
Thanks anyway.
