(Blind Luck ) Unmolested 1942 Lithgow No. I Mk III*

Vacationing & slow rolling home checking every flea market etc...in no hurry to get home and found this.
1942 Lithgow No I MK III* in what appears to be original unmolestied condition (save the import mark on the underside of the buttstock (not sure how they got away with that) not even the light J Jovino markings on the charger bridge. Matching SN on the following reciever,barrel,bolt,sight,forestock & nose piece. In addition there are coresponding numbers on the underside of the bolt handle & the flat on the reciever under it. Most small parts marked OA,BA & MA.
Does it look legitamite? All input appreaciated.

Revealing part of the serial numbers would certainly help identify its pedigree.

Nice, honest looking rifle. Is it just stamped "Australia" on the underside of the butt or is it an abbreviated business import marking? I've seen rifles with the "Australia" stamp in the wood. It's a country of origin stamp as used prior to 1968.

Looks pretty good from the description and photos.

For your interest, 1942 actions assembled in 1942 as indicated by the butt, are represented in reasonably small numbers, because of the lag in production. Most 1942 receivers were assembled in 1943, therefore most 1942 rifles you see are stamped 1943 on the butt. What's the barrel date? Love the colour of the stock.

That is the only thing resembling an import mark I can find so it must be pre 68.

Am I safe in assuming this is the barrel date? Wil a partial serial number be of any use.

Yep, make sure you check the draws in the forend before you shoot it. The wood looks pretty oil soaked. Coachwood isn't the greatest and will come apart if not maintained properly.

That's the barrel date.

If original barrel with a 11'42 date i would expect the serial number to be a C Prefix in the 90,000s
