Proper powder for AR-15
I have been reloading for the AR with surplus 846 powder and now have been told there may be jamming problems because it is a "Dirty" powder..I guess Stoner designed it for use with 4895 or similar non ball powder. Anyone ever loaded with a graphite ball powder and had any problems?...I come from the M-1 crowd as far as reloading and 846 has always worked fine, but has a much different gas setup....Thanks for your input....Charlie

25 Gr of 844 or H335 always worked for me.Ron.

Ignore nay-sayers
this is a great powder for your AR or else-it is a specially coated powder that burns a lot cooler than other powders and will give longer barrel life
they are doing the same to W748

i've been using wc846 in my ar's for years now, no it is not a dirty burning powder, in fact one of the most accurate of all powders i've used incluning varget. the military used because they were getting longer barrel life. there is no one proper powder for the ar, a lot of them work quite well, some better then others. work up a load of that wc846,you'll like with 55&69gr.

I use AA 2520 with great accuracy (24.5 with 69Gr SMK's or Noslers)

I've been using CMR100 [4895 substitute] with 69SMK's and so far it shoots a lot better than I do. Tried some 2230C [ball] and it did OK but seemed to be dirty, and was not accurate enough to suit me. So far my DPMS Bull 20 will put 5 into 5/8 after I put a RAA 2 stage trigger in it, but until I get some carpal tunnel out of my "gun hand", and a lot more practice, the half inch world is still elusive. Shooting was done off a homemade bench with a Harris bipod. HTH

Add that I took two [2] full turns off the ejector spring and the brass now lands in a nice pile about 4-5 feet away, instead of 10-12. Getting too old to spend more time chasing brass than shooting.

For several years I experimented with numerous powders until I have finally settled on Win 748 and 62 gr. bullets. Wherever I aim it, that's exactly where it goes. If it's not a 10 at 200 yds, it's MY fault. But my AR-15 is a 1/7 twist barrel.
No two rifles will take the exact same loads so keep plugging. (he, he)
