Rear sight elevation on M1a seems off.
I have an M1a loaded. I got one of those laser bore sights that attaches to the end of the rifles muzzle with a strong magnet. It works great on all my surplus and modern rifles. But using it on my M1A makes me wonder if I have an issue. With my rear sight windage all the way down I have to raise it 35 clicks up from base to sight it in about 150 yards. This puts the rear sight about 1/4 the way up from being fully extended. I've read that others only raise 12 clicks for 200 yards what do you fellas think?
Thanks.

I agree, bore sighting must be confirmed by zeroing. Until you do you don't know.

You are not relying on the scale on the Elevation Drum now, are you? It has to have been properly indexed or the numbers on it are meaningless. That's what the big screw on the left side of the sight knob is for - reindexing the sight drum so the numbers match the yardage.
Many M1/M14 users count "UP" clicks from the bottom, and ignore the marks on the drum. Usually 8-11 clicks up from the bottom gets you "on" at 100 yards, although guns vary a little.
A laser boresighter will give you mechanical zero, but you have to shoot it to be sure. CC

No I counted the clicks up from the bottom.

Shoot it. I'll bet you're over the target.
