Two points ... A good unbiased account of the program from conception to the initial introduction of the A2 can read and digested in the book "The Last Enfield" Should be required reading for anyone in the Defence establishment, or indeed Defence industry in general.
Was the whole thing very badly managed, yes, but we are where we are and after many years its come right.
Second: The only thoughts that really matter regarding the design are from the people who have used the current issue version in combat ... I have been told by people who have extensively used the A2, (they are very positive about it), it's reliable, accurate and it does the job well.
These are people with no particular axe to grind, it's just the honest appraisal of people whose lives have depended on it to do its job in the field.
