Twin 1893 Spanish Mausers
I am blaming this purchace on Aragorn's KAR98A project.
"Barn find" Twin 1893 Spanish contract Mausers with Saanish crest and Berlin 1896 on top of the receiver. One rough & perhaps salvageble nd the other seems to have the parts the other is missing (probabal organ donor). If my brief research is correct these appear to hve perhaps have spent some time in Cuba.
The fun begin.

I think Aragorn' projects (the KAR98A in particular) might be responsible for quite a few new projects.
they look like a nice pair, enough to finish one and provide the basis to de-sporterise another.

Neither pper sporterised but one is very rusty. The best most complete has insect holes all over the stock so I thought about switching wood but "wormwood" has a matching SN & sharp cartouch.
Any ideas on filling the holes? Just trying for the safe to fire relic type restoration.
I will post some better photos of the stock.

there is some stuff here about repairing woodworm damage that sounded good to me.

A bit of progress. Started with dissassembly and accessment. Bug holes galore in the primary rifles stock but very few missing parts to make one sound one out of the two rifles. I repaired the insect holes as follows.
Blew them clean with compressed air and filled with stainable wood filler with as little left above grade as I wanted to keep sanding to a minimum. After the filler dried I spot staind the tiny spots with a syringe. I wish I had used lighter color.
The photos show the results. Looks a bit better I think.
Am thinking about the electrolysis process mentioned in other threads for the barreled action. Any thoughts on the wisdom if that route?

And a few after. Sorry could not wait to see it assembled (should have taken the photos first). I would encourage anyone with a basket case to try electrolysis.
Quite pleased given its 120 years old and the condition in which it was found.
