Vos Parate, the select grade billsm1 is talking about is from about 10 years ago, not the new special grade. I believe it had a TE of less than 2. It was suppose to be better.

At one time a Service Grade, Select Grade and Collector Grade were offered. At that time there were no Field or Rack grades offered. When you ordered you could receive a WRA, S.A. HRA or a IHC. (luck of the draw)

The good old days. No whining about people not getting exactly what they asked for, prices were lower...all good.

Niner had it right. It was basically a service grade with the guarantee of a TE of at least 2. The price was $550,a fifty dollar premium . My 2,516 came with a 2-65 SA barrel. It was ordered in Feb. '99,I received it in Jan. 2001.

[SIZE="2"]The older select grades were all USGI,basically mint condition like new rebuilds. It might be my failing memory but I recall they cost $750,not $550,at least when I ordered one. I had one on order but it got cancelled as it was right at the time they ran out and stopped selling that option. If you have the chance to buy one and it has'nt been abused or shot out you should get a very nice rifle, more desirable than the current select grade IMHO./SIZE]

I guess I'm wrong. Just talked to a buddy of mine that also got an older select grade and he "gently" reminded me it was the collector grades that used to be $750,not the selects. My mistake,I do remember the $750 collector grades, obviously the select would not have cost the same.

I guess that's why the recent select grades were renamed specials. I recall some confusion on the names.
