Newbie with a recently acquired Mk111^
Greetings to all. I have been reading threads for many months now researching Mk111 LE rifles. A dealer/collector friend of mine got me started. Last time I handled a Mk111^ was in basic training at RAF Wlmslow in October 1957. Well I decided to get one of my very own. It's every bit as heavy as I remember, scrawny 147 lb kid running round the parade ground at high port. Ah yes, I remember it well. It is not a collectors piece. It is bsa made in 1916. The bolt, receiver, barrel and backsight (restamped) all match. The nose cap does not match because it is bl**dy great piece of Australia with o45 or 045 stamped on the site box. How and why it got there, heaven only knows. Another Enfield mystery. Consensus is it can't have been fired more than a couple of hundred times. Since the furniture has been refinished I don't have all those stamps of its history. I think it may be a depot rifle issued for guard duty based on its condition.
If you stayed with me this far, I do have a question. Of all pictures I've looked at I have a stamp on the Knox for I have not seen before. It is an anchor over number over letter rather than a crown. I would be most grateful for your insights
Paul

The one thing you can be certain of with a SMLE is that it has seen more than one user. It probably passed through more hands than a six pence of the same age by the time its service life ended.

Great that you've got back to Lee Enfield's!
Some photos would be nice; and would help our resident experts in identifying the various stamps etc.
