They'd get a better yield if the did the calculations on the target...then tamped, even with a board behind the explosive. We did say"when in doubt, overcharge"...but that's waste. Too, it might not even do it. If you do it in an earmuff charge the explosion is twice as effective because it comes in from both sides crumbling the target.
