Thompson 20 rnd mag pouch, Fake or Genuine

I have this Thompson mag pouch for the 20 rnd mag which I'm not 100% certain is original WW2 production or what I call "historic repro", i.e. has gained a certain amount of patina of it's own. There appears to be no maker's or acceptance/ownership markings on it other than what's on the metal popper. I got it for a good price even if a reproduction. Thanks for any help and information.

It looks like an original to me, but I could be wrong. Did you look really good on the inside?
the part of the wide back should have a contractor name and 1942 mark, difficult to find.

Almost all US five cell pouches had markings US or USMC but there are always exceptionsAttachment 77090Attachment 77091

I've had another look for markings but still can't see any but it is possible that the pouch could have been washed/cleaned, by a previous owner, and any markings present lost?

I don't think so, they're tougher than that. I too think it's original but not marked. I had one a while back myself, the LL theory would hold the most water to me. I remember when those showed up as converted autos here in Canada, both in .45 and 7.62x25...using their curved mags.

I agree with Steve762 on his thought on this pouch. There was a HUGE glut of these on the UK market, that came with the large batch of LL Thompsons. Back from Russia. So MANY were imported, that it wouldn't be worth faking them TBH. However.......The THREE cell 30 round mg Pouches, HAVE been Repro Manufactured in quantity. RYTONs were the Guys that opened the door to all of the importation of this stuff originally.

They had SO Many, of the five cell pouches in. it is perfectly possible that they may still have some in stock?.........ALL were in an unissued condition.

It's original. Look on the inside of the belt loop for manufacturer's markings.

What type of thread is used? Cotton or synthetic?

Still can't see any markings on the inside of the belt loop. The thread looks cotton to me, not that I'm any sort of sowing expert.


Looking on Ryton's website today, there is hardly anything on there left for sale; quite sad when one remembers all the kit that they use to have on their website for sale.

It's easy, steal a small (tiny) sample of the thread from the locking stitch or other loose end, apply flame, if it burns it's cotton, if it melts, drips, and burns smokey it is synthetic.
