Just added a bit above to make point clear DRP. No, these sights had all been professionally modified by P-H and spaced on the underside where the screws went so as to just clear the rear pad when screwed up tight. I think I put up a photo of one of these sights a couple of years ago when PH sights were being discussed. Definately genuine as with them, tucked away in the wood box was the P-H receipt for having them all overhauled in the late 60's for £1: 7 shillings and 3 pence each. Together with a letter explaining that due to their hand built and assembled nature of these precision made sights, P-H were not willing to sell spare parts except for those optional extras usually retailed! No wonder.......... you could never even start to guess what screw thread systems they were using! I think that they still had Whitworth ship-building tap and die sets

Apparently these modified P-H sights were quite common in forces shooting circles. Alas, not so common in my part of the Forces where we had enough bangs in our ears without volunteering for shooting teams

You can tell when they've been back as they are stamped on the rear with a minute letter R and 1069. Repaired, 10-69?
