The "magnificent four." They look quite confident. Feb. or Apr. '45?

That poor BAR almost looks polished the finish is so worn!
Yes, for the picture to be taken!

Funny! One of those great posed photographs for the home front, bearing no relation to reality. Can you imagine anyone actually sitting like that in an area where there was actually enemy activity? One casual short burst from an MG42 and all 4 are gone! Still good to see the photos as they show the kit. What strikes me in all these picture of the days is just how completely devastated everything is. Hell of a mess!

But they wouldn't do that in that case.

Obviously posed! A complete lack of tactical awareness, and the BAR is not cocked.

I remember as kid when my father was stationed in Germany
in 1959, Mannheim was still in ruins from the Allied bombing. Same for Berlin especially Berlin looking over the Wall and seeing the skyline of bombed out buildings. Many of the buildings on the East German side were false fronts. That was my first exposure to total war and destruction. The most telling sight was at night from the West Berlin Radio tower. If you out over the city at night you can make out the outline of West Berlin from the flashing neon lights. Everything on the East side was a monotone reddish vapor lights.
