Shortened SLR
There was a Deac sold of a shortened SLR that the seller said was used by the SAS of both Aus & N.Z which raised a few eyebrows me as well at the price and authenticity.
I had a look through a book I have 40 Years of the Australian
SAS By Mick Malone who was in the SAS and did a combat tour in VN, here is a pic proof the SLR's were field modded (Shortened) in Vietnam to suit fighting in the jungle.
I do not know why pics are not posting correctly, as once I have uploaded and ready to attach there is a question mark in the box instead of the intended picture like it used to display?

I don't even have to open the box and look, yes things were done in RVN and all theaters of ops. All forces modify stuff for war, the point is THAT rifle isn't an SAS anything. Not a hope.

As a result of a similar short barrel querie in the FN FAL thread I am writing a short paper regarding the simple maths, physics and general and WELL proven unreliability of such a notion. This is based on, well....., the maths and physics of course plus the bleedin' obvious and the fact that we had a series of gradually shortened barrels which would prove the point practically. Hold fire........
But just because the science and laboratory practice says it is liable to abysmal failure, please don't let this prove the myths wrong.........

It’s not at your end Cinders.
Looks an issue with the site image resizing add on. The image is hosted on the site server. For some reason, it’s not resizing it and displaying it.
I copied it, resized and uploaded to my photobucket.

Accuracy of a proven and tested rifle would have been destroyed IMHO by doing that to it..........well thats fact then, never let a Regiment bloke loose with a hacksaw, cos thats what happens, false legends are made about perfectly good "rifles made into spraying tools"
Now where is that story about shortened trench Lee Enfields when you want it
As far as 7.62 LMG mags used on SLR's, personally speaking, never worked and a recipy for lots of stoppages. We would call those using them COWBOY's in our Regiment anyway!!

And according to the written text it as a one off and when the seals finally got it they let some clown take it home. So, it's a simple one off..."breathed flames" indeed... Then there's one more pictured. Doubt there were many.
I'd still rather have the full length model.

Unless some clown looked at a flare or light with it and popped the bulb. Then it was so much weight you had to carry. I hated those things...
