I can think of a fair few battles the USMC fought in the Pacific during WWII that were just as brutal if not more so and against an equally barbaric foe...................
If you want to learn just how barbaric the IJA soldiers were get yourself a copy of "The Curse Of Bushido" By Lord Russell of Liverpool (I think) will certainly open your eyes sure did for me.
