03 mark I question
Hi all. new this this forum, and happy to vsit. was refered to this site from THR with an '03 question. came across an '03 mark I with a barrel marked 5 18 and flaming bomb. serial no. 11xx xxxhas an unreadable rectanguar cartouche on left side of stock and the (P) proof on stock aft of trigger guard. someone refinished the stock. the metal is very good or excellent (maybe was re blued by someone, like the person who refinished stock?). bore looks very clean, almost unfired. any thoughts on value or rarity?

Mark Is are pretty common. All you have to do is take a look on the auction sites. The value/worth starts going up if the rifle has 1) the Mark I stock (a clearance cut to clear the ejector port on the left side) and 2) the specialized parts - the trigger, sear, cutoff, etc.

Of course pictures would help.
These are original Mark 1 parts. I do not know if the receiver has been reparked, but all the metal parts, including the barrel match in color.

I am not certain, but this is a 1919 rifle? Serial number is 1,1xxx,xxx? Barrel is wrong. It is a shooter, now. Don't dump a pile of money trying to make it "correct". I'll bet nothing is "correct". But, it may well be a very nice shooter. Take a look at Vi Shooter site for more detail.
