S'G' Production Dates?
Was the Saginaw Grand Rapids plant working on both assigned serial number blocks at the same time? For example, is it possible for an S'G' with a serial# in the 1,857,XXX (early block) range to have an Underwood barrel with a 9-43' date and an IP buttplate compared to an S'G' serial# with a 3,227,XXX (later block) and an Underwood 5-43' barrel?

I believe there had to of been some overlap.
Here is what I've seen:
1st IP-S'G' split block;
S'G' 1,823.xxx 8-43 Underwood some mix of IP parts
S'G' 1,829,xxx 8-43 Underwood
S'G' 1,848,xxx 7-43 Buffalo
******CORRECTION********
IP Original 1,833,xxx 8-43 Buffalo Should read S'G' Original 1,833,xxx 8-43 Buffalo barrel
IP was 1,77 I can't find the barrel data now. These 2 both owned by Ohio member Curt.
All S'G'
3,241,xxx 6-43 Underwood
3,243,xxx 8-43 Underwood
3,246,xxx 2-43 Underwood
So I'd say yes to your questions.

When S'G' took over the IP production they had to use IP stamped receivers first. Not all serial numbers were used as many had been on bad receivers. Any receivers that were made but not stamped IP but were serial numbered were then marked and used by S'G'. A 3.2 million with a 5/43 barrel would fit right in with that. A serial number in the 1.8 range with an 8/43 or later barrel would have been new S'G' made receivers using unused serial numbers. Later production but an earlier serial number.

Thanks, I have only seen 2 others on CMP
'S list that were in the 1,76x,xxx range, but they were higher in the block.

Hello Rusty,
Remember our little buddy Mikey51 from New Zealand
?
I may have a IP mistaken, but thought he had ran across a S'G' also in the 1,7 range.
I'm trying to search his old posts for more info, but could be in vain.
I miss him (among others) his last time on was 12-29-13, almost 3 years ago now.
Mikey and I spent countless hours/days researching areas in NZ where US troops had trained using the local landscape of caverns to simulate attacking volcanic islands used/fortified by the Japanese
. Even found old US camps that are now housing for locals. I remember names of the streets like Eleanor, after the 1st lady. She did a lot for our troops in NZ.
I do enjoy seeing your early one. Just can't remember how/when you ran across it.
Did it happen to get to you from that guy in Bama?
Cheers Buddy and Merry Christmas,

Hey Charlie,
I do remember Mikey51, I only get on here occasionally anymore since retiring, but I haven't seen him post on here in years. It seems right after the Earthquakes they had down there ! As for the S'G'. I found it 4 or 5 years ago in Texas Gun Trader, and met the fellow face to face in Waco, Texas. Half way for he and I both. He was from the Ft.Worth area, and me here in Spring, TX. When he rattled out that serial number I was on the road, thought I would get me an IP, but I wasn't disappointed. I finally right after that purchase, found an IP right here in Houston through that same Texas Gun Trader Site. Got me an original 1.77 all IP parts and just a few S'G' parts with a 2-43 barrel, I paid for it (a lot). After I scored that one, the last I needed, it just kind of took the wind out of my Sails. So much anticipation waiting, and waiting for a good one I guess. I hope your doing well, didn't see you on here for a while until recently, good talking to you !

S'G' and IP marked receivers can be seen in both ranges. Barrel date is a good indicator of more or less IP parts. 4-43 vs 6-43
Earlier receivers had a rounded receiver ear (see data sheet) and later a square ear. I have not seen a square ear IP. I have not seen a 1.8 IP
I have a 3.21 S'G' at an auction I saw a IP that was only 9 digits away confirming that both blocks were produced by IP and reused/unused serial numbers were produced by S'G'

I've got a couple S'G' Carbines both with 8-43 Underwood barrels. What would you expect for IP parts usage on those? - Bob
