Can you imagine what happened to get to the point of actually purchasing the new rifle? It took years, wasted MILLIONS of dollars and in the end countless firearms enthusiasts could have told DND what to build/buy and the saved money would have meant they would virtually have cost NOTHING.
Tough conditions where they will be used, stainless, common sense. Laminate stock, common sense. Quality engineering, Sako or FN, common sense.
I'll say it again, they sure look pretty.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

It's depressing isn't it, I wonder, did anyone take the ultimate common sense approach of actually asking the Rangers what they wanted?
Out of interest Jim, how many rifles are being procured?

It's my understanding that the Rangers will be offered to buy their old No4's once the new rifles are being issued. Of course, us civvies will be SOL.

If this is the case spread the word amongst the rangers to buy their rifles there is a market to move them onto if they want to doing a community service in the process.

These guys aren't really interested in that sort of thing, it doesn't impress them. Many of the rifles won't even remotely be worth anything anyway. Their maintenance and care aren't what you'd expect for the most part. That's kind of a black picture but it's close.

Is there a reason the Rangers didn't re-equip with the C1 back in the day Jim, it seems a logical step after all?

25 odd years ago I read the Inuit were licensed to take 500 Narwhals a year for their tusks and presumably meat. They shot their 500 alright, but about half of them sank before they could be recovered. This apparently was not perceived as a problem.

Made "next door" for a fraction of the price of the Tikka, even if the dollar figure includes a "ten year parts warranty".
All gun-oil down the bore now, I guess.
Trust me the Tikka is better than the Ruger. I've worked with several Ruger scout rifles which had bolt binding issues resulting in locking the gun up when operating under stress.
All that aside, it wouldn't have mattered because Ruger isn't about to authorize Colt to build them, and provide them with the data package.

Well usually a red picture rather than black, unless you're talking about the water stained wood.
