Alaskan All Weather Scope Help:
Just found a early Lyman Alaskan All Weather marked scope..It is serialled #31,371 which according to Bell and Seijas article..is just a few serialls off the start of the first assigned block for the M81 (#31,501-31,850). It has early domed adjustment cap with serrations and sniper style post. It appears to be one of the last commercial wartime Lyman scopes just prior to start of military M81 contract....of further interest .it is mounted in Griffin and Howe M-1 C mount....blued but no rifle serial issue number on mount (1932 pat. marked)..I am thinking this might have been put aside and never issued as a replacement for M-1C..appreciate any comments...Hemi

Commercial
It's a common late commercial well AFTER the war, probably early 1949. Lyman restarted 1946 post-war commercial serials around 5600 where they left off in 1943 and ran all the way to the 50,000 range by about 1950, duplicating all the military serials along the way. This one just happened to fall near where the military M81s were numbered. Hunting scope 30564 was purchased new in November 1948. Don't know how the domed caps got on there, they were very early military, but you can't date a scope by the caps, they got switched all the time.
Real men measure once and cut.
