Carbine related... sort of
Many here know that my dad used an Inland M1
Carbine on Iwo Jima in 1945. He was with the advance party of the 142 Army Garrison force, and landed on the island on D-Day +5. He was there the night of "the Big Banzai Charge".
Something I never mentioned before (mainly because this is an M1 carbine forum) is that he also carried a S&W Victory Model .38 Special. As a senior NCO, he had access to a 1911A1, but said he couldn't hit anything with the 45. He like the 38 revolver though, and felt he could hit what he aimed at with it. I know he used the carbine the night of the Banzai charge (he said it never let him down), but I don't know if he also used the revolver.
Where I am going with this, is that I finally am acquiring a Victory Model 38 Special. I won one on Gunbroker, and can't wait to get it. This will go with my Inland and all my dad's WW2 stuff to honor him, my uncles, and all of that greatest generation.

I too have trouble hitting with the .45, not uncommon complaint. The revolver on the other hand, I can hit what I want for the most part. We'll be waiting for the pics and range report.

Here's a S&W Navy I picked up while my daughter was in.
All matching with the S&W letter.
Missed my daughter while she was in.
Some how buying anything Navy seemed to make things a little easier.
I can't load pictures with this ole laptop, but can post the file link.
Thanks Badger!! Now by clicking on the picture we can see the complete file

That's the pistol my Dad carried while he was flying off the USS Yorktown in the summer of 1944. Carried a .25 Browning in flight suit leg pocket. A pistol of last resort.

It is a perfect companion piece for my Inland. Now I need to find a box of WW2 ammo to go with it. I have plenty of current .38 to shoot, but a box to go with the WW2 stuff would be nice.

IRM,
A S&W VP Revolver and box of ammo would look really nice pictured with your group!
Oh, and maybe one of the shoulder holsters.
Now that I brought the holster up, I have one here somewhere that had cartridge loops added to the strap.
IIRC someone had trimmed the bottom leather to probably fit a 45.
I forget the proper ID on these holsters.
Mine has a loose bottom snap.
Can't wait to see yours. I love the feel of these.
Cheers,
Charlie

I ordered a repop Navy flyer shoulder holster with 12 canvas bullet loops for $45 from eBay also bidding on a original WW2 belt holster like my dad had

Yep,
Now add that box of shells and get a nice photo, it'll look great.
Congrats!
Charlie
Anyone remember the name of these holsters?

Hey IRM,
Take a look about 7 posts down on this link and you'll see a belt mounted ammo pouch for the VP .38. We had one of these around when I was young (nabbed it from Dad) and used it for our .410 shells running up and down the river banks. Its long gone now and I've looked off and on for years trying to replace it. Father was not happy.
Would look nice also in your display,...........

WHERE THE .38 SHOULDER HOLSTERS CALLED A M3? TIA
