Letters DEM stamped on Inland stock
I was looking at a Inland carbine for sale. The stock had IO (IIRC) stamped in the slingwell so it should be correct in that regard.
What I'm trying to figure out are the letters DEM stamped on the side of the but stock. The size of the stamped letters are larger than what I've observed on US military stocks, but I'm far from being an authority on that topic. I couldn't find out anything in Canfield's book on the Garand/Carbine, nor anything on the net. Any body have any ideas/info of this particular stamp? Thanks in advance.

The stamping may be an arsenal ID or it could be possible it belonged to a police department somewhere. Another factor may be an owner once applied the stamp for his initials. Detailed photos would be a big help in identification.
