Naturally Warren I didn't even consider putting you in the 'there are none' category. It follows as night follows day that you would have boxes of them. I didn't put myself into that category either - for the same reason. Same as someone else I know in Canadaicon near to you because I gave him a load!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. I have two hundred accurate repros & about a hundred originals - but they have all been amassed over the years - many years. The repro's are for the next batch of brackets (if I ever manage to get them finished), & the originals are for original restoration project brackets that have come out of India with various bits missing.....

The one aspect of the mount screws, which can be seen in the link provided by Cinders in Post 1, which made me wonder if they were modern reproduction is the relatively light application of the knurling. You can see the difference in the knurling by looking carefully at the image in post 9 where the "diamonds" of the knurling are much more pronounced and deeper. I will always remember being taught, as a young lad, how to produce good quality knurling on a manual lathe by my Foreman years and years ago.

The oilers which I purchased from this vendor, Cinders, were the black Bakerlite type with Canadianicon acceptance markings. I wasn't aware that this type of oiler was being faked?

I don't think the thumbscrews are original wartime manufacture - much too modern looking. However, like others, I know the vendor & I doubt very much that he'd deliberatley misrepresent them, & suspect that he probably believes them to be the real deal.

    title states:

"2 lee enfield original NO4T NO32 SNIPER SCOPE MOUNT SCREWS "

    Ebay's definition of NEW:

"A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item. Please see the seller's listing for full details."

    Sellers listing for full details:

"2 LEE ENFIELD NO4T NO32 SNIPER SCOPE MOUNT SCREWS FOUND IN WITH A LOAD OF PARKER HALE PARTS"

    Item condition:New

where does it state that they are NOS?

you have no recourse should you deside they are not NOS?

    "Returns:"No Returns Accepted"

I cannot speak for the character of the vendor but what is not stated in the add speaks volumes

if enough repro's flood the market then someone is bound to claim they were produced by a second tier manufacturer. FTR'd during the 50's?

Down the road it will have done enourmous harm to our 4t rifles, the hobby and the the market.

sometimes when you hold your moral compass too close to valuable metal objects like the 4t it will influence which direction the needle points.

Threads such as this are very useful and educational because it can be very difficult to decide if an item is original or reproduction, given the quality of some reproductions these days. I don't believe that I have been fooled that often by fakers but, like most people in the militaria collecting world, I have made several mistakes over the years.

Me too...........Remember the old adage; 'The man that never made a mistake never made anything much at all'!

Fortunately, with the passage of time one gains experience, so one drops clangers less often!
